Yooperlite is a specific type of Syenite rocks rich in fluorescent Sodalite. These rocks were discovered in Michigan's Upper Peninsula by Erik Rintamaki in 2017, hence the name "Yooperlite," which is derived from "Yooper," a term for people who live in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The rocks have garnered significant attention because they glow under ultraviolet light, showing a vibrant orange or yellowish color due to the presence of fluorescent Sodalite.
Yooperlite stones are predominantly found in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, along the shores of Lake Superior. Sourced exclusively from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, our Yooperlite stones are perfect for metaphysical practices, home decor, and even as an extraordinary gift.
What makes yooperlite glow
The glow of Yooperlite stones is caused by the presence of fluorescent sodalite minerals within the rock. Fluorescence is a phenomenon where a material absorbs photons (light energy). The stone absorbs energy from UV light and then release it as lower-energy visible light, thereby causing fluorescence.
